124 Lying chestnut foal is 2-1/2" tall x
3-1/4" long - has ear tip rubs & small glaze flaw
109 Lying Horse is stamped Japan and is about 5"
long. Ear tips have rubs in the finish. Feels like heavy
cast porcelain
114 Grazing foal is about 3-1/4" tall at the
shoulder

stamped on the belly. He has one clean repaired break at the upper
right leg (see photo) about 4-1/4" tall

base is 5-1/2" tall...has a few pin holes and rough spots
under the glaze...maker unknown
112 White horse is about 4-1/4" tall and
is hollow cast. Feels like bone china but could be ceramic.

tall. The base is hollow and is probably porcelain..

Many of the horses on this page date back to the
early 1950's when I started my first horse collection. Every
Saturday morning we made the weekly trip to town to pick up
supplies at the "dry goods" store.
Clutching my meager allowance of fifty cents
I would race to the Ben Franklin store to buy another china horse
for my collection.
I didn't always have enough money but a
plastic Hartland horse was only a dime so I would come home with a
new horse of some sort to add to my collection.
The Hartland collection will eventually make
its way to these pages. |
